ASOT #10 — KVMs… hardware or software?

June 6th, 2007

On today’s show we’re looking at remote control of servers, routers or even PCs using KVMs or their software equivalents like Symantec’s PCAnywhere or Microsfot’s Remote Desktop Connection. We’ll talk to Gary Hull from KVM vendor Raritan, and then we’ll hear from David Aranda who uses the products on his network. After that we’ll be asking Paul Wilkinson from our sponsor Dimension Data for his perspective on KVMs. And we’ve got a bonus interview which Pat Gray recorded last week with Avaya’s local general manager.

  • In our news segment Scott McKenzie at ZDNet talks about Internode drowning under a torrent of bits, and Optus finally offering VoIP for its small business customers
  • Gary Hull from Raritan tells us why his hardware beats software for remote access control of servers and routers
  • David Aranda from Premier Media Group talks about the KVMs he’s deployed on his network
  • Paul Wilkinson from Dimension Data puts the case for software KVMs.
  • Carlton Taya from Avaya explains his company’s market share to Pat Gray.
  • **********We apologise for the poor audio quality in the interview with Gary Hull. ITRadio is improving its recording techniques so this won’t happen again.
